Work Schedule: Full time days

Responsible for the day to day operations of the Sterile Processing Department. Ensures medical instruments and equipment are properly cleaned, sterilized, and made available for use for the operating room and other departments and clinics within the hospital.

Responsibilities:
Essential Job Functions

1. Supervises the daily activities of the Sterile Processing Department and employees.

2. Has authority to conduct interviews, make hiring decisions, facilitate orientation, handle terminates, and conduct performance evaluations.

3. Engages in staff acknowledgement and implements corrective action when necessary.

4. Works with repair vendors to maintain instrumentation and orders replacements as needed.

5. Collaborates with repair vendors to maintain instrumentation, orders replacements as needed, and manages the department's inventory of supplies and implants.

6. Creates staff schedules.

7. Able to perform all duties of Sterile Processing Tech.

8. Works with Infection Prevention, Quality, and OR to maintain Quality standards.

9. Participates in meetings and committees as needed.

10. Works with Educator to oversee staff education and competencies.

11. Monitors and reports Productivity and budget variance.

12. Reports issues/concerns to Service Leader and/or Service Executive.

Job Requirements:

Education

  • High School Diploma preferred.


Experience
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in Sterile Processing department required.
  • One year supervisory experience preferred.


License/Certifications:
  • Certified Sterile Processing & Distribution Technician (CSPDT) certification or Certified Register Central Service Technician (CRCST) certification or successful completion of Surgical Technology training program, or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) certification with instrumentation experience required.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred


Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
  • Necessitates the capability to systematically evaluate information, concepts, and ideas.
  • To methodically assess technical procedures, create, and effectively convey these procedures to both employees and customers ensuring the efficiency and effectiveness of the services provided.
  • Proficiency in customer service and the ability to promote effective teamwork are essential.
